ABORTION -
A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT

My Views on Abortion have been mostly unchanged since 1976. I feel Abortion is a matter that should be left to a woman and her conscience.

In my opinion, Abortion is an immoral way of conducting birth control. Unfortunately, to reverse the 1973 ruling that legalized Abortion would cause greater harm than good.

To encourage responsible relationships and discourage use of Abortion as Birth Control, I favor the following restrictions:

  1. Abortion should be performed in the first trimester of pregnancy.
  2. Minors seeking Abortion should have parental consent.
  3. Married women seeking Abortion should have spousal consent.
  4. I vary on whether there should be a twenty-four hour waiting period for a woman between the time she visits a clinic and the procedure is performed. A waiting period will ensure the person is informed about the procedure and the alternatives. Unfortunately, a waiting period could also cause an extra economic cost that some could not afford. In a democracy, all citizens should have equal opportunity not based on economic status.
